AKAROA HARBOUR RECREATIONAL FISHING CLUB (INC) Meeting

Are you a Recreational Fisher?

  • Do you have concerns about the existing rules and regulations?

  • Our Club is YOUR voice to FISH MAINLAND, a new not-for-profit organisation that aims to provide a unified voice for the marine recreational fishing community in the South Island and Stewart Island.

  • Please support the Club that’s working for the benefit of all fishers and the future of recreational fishing in our area.

TWO BLUE COD A DAY - IS THAT FAIR?

For all of you who fish offshore from Banks Peninsula where blue cod are plentiful even if you fish beyond the 12-mile limit you can still only land two fish when you come ashore. Who wants to use 50 litres of fuel or more to land just two fish?

If you stay inshore to catch your fish it will only increase the fishing pressure in the red areas.

Is this sensible? What can be done about this unfair regulation?

SET NETTING IN AKAROA HARBOUR - IS IT ON THE WAY OUT?

No decision has been made by the Government yet; we have asked for information but received no response.

We now know that there are between six and nine times as many Hector’s dolphins off the South Island East Coast as previously stated by researchers.

Danger to dolphins under existing rules for recreational flounder fishing is vanishingly small. But there are still many who want to ban it based on ignorance and false information.

Let us know your own experiences and what you think about losing a long and valued way of putting flounder on the family dinner table.

To discuss these and other fishing issues bring a friend and join us at:

The Grand Hotel in Akaroa on Sunday 7th February 2021 at 5.00 p.m.
